Locked in to a static website?

So many businesses out there are currently LOCKED IN to a website that they cannot edit and cannot communicate with.  It does NOT represent their business in the internet.  As a result, the business will lose potential customers and have to do more work closing the customers who call.

Why so bad?

The current situation for most business owners is that they need to have a website, so they hire someone to build one for them.  They work with a designer who creates pages and delivers them a nice looking website that impresses customers.  Want to make a change?  Call up the designer, and they'll get the change out as fast as they can.

These are called static websites - you can't change them.  The designer can, but to you, they stay the same.

We've talked to several clients who claim the turnaround would take a week or more and then the change would not be performed as requested, requiring another round of change.  So that's about 2 weeks or more for a change, and there is a cost for each hour spent.

Most businesses then change their website minimally.  "We have to change the website for that.  Maybe we won't do that."  They forgo or limit what changes they make.  The website change is like a rare visit to an expensive restaurant.

The impact on the business is they appear static to their clients who think the business isn't evolving or may wonder about it.  They do not communicate fully what there is to say, which can lead to missed opportunities when a competitor does communicate that idea and attracts the customer.  Finally they only keep generic information on their website, which does nothing to help a customer to bond with the business.

What's possible with a CMS?

When you first log in to a Content Management System (CMS), there is a breath of fresh air.  You can create a page by clicking a button, typing, formatting, and saving.  You can get a new page up with no delay!

The experience is one where there's suddenly a world of possibility in communication where you can say a whole new realm of things that wouldn't make sense in the expensive world of websites where your words were in stone for possibly a year.

Your customers feel like there is information they can interact with.  You teach them something.  They bond to you.  Your business appears alive and growing.  There are recent posts about the market or a recent industry trend.  You're the expert, and they're excited to call.

It's a world of difference.

Why do so many go static?

So many business owners go with a static site instead of with a CMS because of the following:

  • they don't know better
  • there are so many more static designers
  • the cost of a CMS website is high
  • they think they're too small for a CMS website

Having a CMS website is like actually putting your business online... not having a sign down the road that points to your business.  Once you have a CMS website, you realize that your small business is a growing dynamic business that has the need for a dynamic growing website.

Those business owners lucky enough to become educated or run into a CMS website developer will end up ahead of the pack.  If you understand why CMS websites are better, then explain them to your friends and colleagues who are shopping for a website.  Refer them to our website and they can read some of our articles.

Breakthrough in Cost

The cost of a CMS website - yes, that traditionally has been high.  And that's where Kibbles is making a difference.  We are getting people into a CMS website with a custom graphics theme for the same price a traditional "static designer" would charge for a 5 page website.

This means there is no cost barrier to having editable pages and menus, and an unlimited number of pages.

Because we have the Kibbles CMS powered by Drupal, we have included many valuable business features that you wouldn't get until you're buying a $5,000 CMS system.  We know we're not making friends among our peers, but you deserve it.

Taking the step

Your job is to tell people about Content Management Systems - why their business needs to be flexible and how they can get started easily.
